At The PDF Lab (accessible at www.thepdflab.com), we believe that your personal documents belong strictly to you. We do not sell, rent, or monetize your documents, metadata, or personal information.

2 Client-Side vs. Server Processing

We distinguish clearly between standard everyday PDF utilities and AI features:

Everyday PDF Tools (Zero Server Upload) Tools such as Merge PDF, Split PDF, Rotate PDF, Organize Pages, Watermark, Protect, Sign, and Remove Pages execute 100% locally inside your web browser using WebAssembly and JavaScript. Your files stay on your device.
AI & Server-Assisted Tools (Encrypted Transmission) Features requiring deep natural language processing (e.g., AI Summarize, Translate PDF, Chat with PDF, PDF to MP3) transmit text securely over SSL/TLS 256-bit encrypted connections to execute server functions.

3 Information We Collect

  • Guest Users: No personal details, names, or email addresses are requested or stored to use free everyday tools.
  • Account Holders: If you create an account, we store your full name, email address, and a securely salted Bcrypt password hash.
  • Server Logs: Technical web server logs (IP address, user-agent, request timestamp) are kept briefly for diagnostic and abuse prevention purposes.

4 Automatic File Purging & Retention

Any temporary files generated on our server for server-assisted conversions or AI jobs are held in isolated temporary directories and automatically deleted by scheduled maintenance scripts after processing. We do not store or archive your document contents long-term.

5 Cookies & Local Storage

We use essential session cookies strictly to maintain user login states and security session tokens. Browser LocalStorage is used locally on your device to store user preferences and tool settings without sending tracking data to external ad networks.
